40 Days of Prayer – Prayer Focus: Covenant Relationships – The Family

Shabbat Shalom Beloveds,

God loves the family. God’s original design for the family was created when He established the marriage of a man and woman as a physical representation of His love for His Bride (Believers) and our love an affection towards God. Through this union, husband and wife would raise up godly children. Therefore it should come as no surprise that the devil would try to undermine the family.

Sadly, when thinking about family, many don’t have great memories. In the Scripture, there are about only a few examples where families were not laden with dysfunction (Genesis 1–2 thru Revelation 21–22).  Even the scriptures show the devastating effects of sin on the family through many tragic stories.

Adam and Eve sinned. Adam responded by blaming his wife. They parented two male children, and one of the sons killed the other. Abraham, God’s chosen man, married two wives, and he eventually kicked one wife and her child out of the house. Jacob had several wives. His wives envied one another, and so did their offspring. Jacob’s twelve sons eventually sold their younger brother into slavery. David also espoused many wives. His son violated his sister. Then Absalom killed his brother Amnon. Later, Absalom tried to kill David, his father.

When we consider this biblical narrative, we see many family relationships that were broken by sin.

Our stories are no different; sin still destroys family relationships, and therefore we don’t have great models of God’s design. God loves families. Satan always hates what God loves.

2 Timothy 3, tells us that in the last days there will be an attack on society. Therefore, we see such enormous destruction in the families of our nation today.

However, families that are framed by God’s word are able to stand in the authority of the scriptures against all works of darkness.  Today and every day let us look to God for help in cultivating a bountiful family life.
