Parasha With Passion – Torah Reading Cycle – Week #14
Greetings Beloveds,
This week’s Torah Portion is called Parashat Va’era, which means, “I appeared.” This is our second Torah portion in the Book of Exodus and it includes God’s visitation upon Egypt with the first seven of the ten plagues. Our Torah reading begins with the names of the sons of Jacob and their households.
In Parashat Va’era, God introduces Himself to His servant Moses and reveals His name.
Exodus 6:3
“I appeared to Avraham, Yitz’chak and Ya‘akov as El Shaddai, although I did not make myself known to them by my name YHVH.”
YHVH – these four Hebrew letters are known as the Tetragrammaton, the name of our Most High God!
Rashi, the ancient Jewish philosopher, points-out that perhaps God revealed His name to Moses in response to a question posed by Moses, as Moses sought to understand the difficulties and struggles of the Hebrew people. God’s response to Moses’ concern was: “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14).
The attributes of God’s goodness, strength, and power are revealed to us as we walk in relationship with Him. In (Exodus 6:6), when Israel had exhausted all human efforts God showed the strength of His power by releasing plagues upon Pharaoh and the Egyptians. Likewise, let us look to God for our victories. God will establish us in righteousness and we shall be far from oppression.
In Parashat Va’era, God proved Himself mighty on the behalf of His people! Likewise, may God prove Himself strong in our lives this coming year! I pray that all our days be filled with peace, health, and prosperity. Most importantly, I pray that just as God revealed His name to Moses, may He also reveal His strength, power, and beauty in our lives this coming year. Expect great things!
Personally, at the close of every secular New Year, I quiet myself before the Lord. I process what God has done throughout the closing year and the lessons that I have learned. As I commune with Him, I receive His strategy and instructions to start off the year strong with purpose, and power. I delight in spending time in God’s presence. We are changed in the presence of our holy God (Isaiah 6:5-8).
I pray that God will crown your year with goodness and may your paths drip with abundance.
