The Passover & The Resurrection

In this weeks scripture reading, Moses instructed the elders of Israel to prepare the Passover lamb.

Exodus 12:21:

“Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go, select lambs for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb.”

In Exodus Chapter 12, God rescued the children of Israel from centuries of Egyptian bondage.  God would send one final plague (the death of the first born) to scourge the land of Egypt.  However, God prepared a way so that the first-born of children of Israel would be saved from death.   A lamb must be sacrificed! The lamb was to be perfect, without spot or blemish.  There was no other way to escape death.

The first Passover sacrifice foreshadowed Messiah Yeshua’s sacrifice for all humanity.   Yeshua came to earth for one reason. He came to sacrifice His life to save ours.  There was no other way.  Yeshua is our Passover Lamb.  He was perfect and without sin.  Through Yeshua’s sacrifice, we are delivered from the power of sin.

Luke 22:15-16:

“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the Kingdom of God.”

In this season, as we prepare ourselves to celebrate the Passover and our Lord’s Resurrection, we cannot fully understand Messiah’s Resurrection until we understand the Passover.

The picture above famously depicts what many call the “Last Supper.”  Yeshua and His disciples were in Jerusalem at Passover.  Yeshua shared His last Passover meal with His disciples, remembering the deliverance that Father God gave the children of Israel when He brought them out of Egypt.

This was significant for our Messiah, because within a few hours, He would also bring deliverance to the entire world – as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29).

At Passover, the Father-heart of God was displayed when He rescued His children out of Egypt from final judgment.  It was the blood of a lamb that marked the door posts that caused God to pass over those whose homes were marked by the lamb’s blood.

In the same way, Father God so loved the world, that He sent His Son, to voluntarily become the sacrifice, the Passover lamb for all humanity (John 3:16).

We cannot separate Messiah’s Resurrection from the power that God demonstrated in delivering His people at Passover. The foundation of our faith stands on two things: (1) Yeshua Messiah is the son of God; and (2) The POWER of His Resurrection, without which, there is no hope for us.

Today is the day of deliverance!  The Passover and the Resurrection are forever intertwined.  Today is the day of salvation!  Let us press in to know the power of Yeshua’s resurrection during this Passover season.

Philippians 3:10:

“My aim is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death.”
